Iona University Athletics

Mark DeSantes returns for his seventh season with the Gaels. He joins the new coaching staff taking on the role of Volunteer Assistant Coach. “Mark’s knowledge of the Iona softball program and the current players will aid our coaching staff in acquainting ourselves with the Iona College softball family,” said Head Coach Jaime Wohlbach.

DeSantes came to the Gaels via Pace University where he spent two seasons from 2000 through 2001 as an assistant coach for the Setters. DeSantes was also the Head Coach of the Westchester Stars, an Under-16 team that played in Summer and Fall leagues in 1998. He spent two years as an assistant with the Stars Under-18 team from 1995-96.

DeSantes is a 1969 graduate of Long Island University where he received his BA in Physical Education. He is presently retired after 33 years of teaching and now resides with his wife Elena in New Rochelle.
