LaTanya Collins Headshot 2023-24

LaTanya Collins

Collins followed Szumilo to Iona after serving as an assistant at Fairleigh Dickinson during the 2022-23 campaign. In her lone season with the Knights, Collins also served as the recruiting coordinator.

Prior to FDU, Collins spent two seasons at Detroit Mercy. She was an assistant in her first season and interim head coach the year before joining Szumilo in Teaneck. Altogether, Collins has been coaching at different levels for more than a decade, including head coaching roles at Division III Southern Vermont College and Division II Saint Augustine's University.

Collins began at Southern Vermont, serving as the head women's basketball coach, assistant athletic director, and Senior Woman Administrator. She led the Mountaineers to four NCAA wins, the most in program history. She was then named head coach at Saint Augustine's, needing just one season to turn the Falcons from six wins to 18, the most for the program since the 1998 season.

Collins added Division I coaching experience to her resume with a two-year stint as an assistant at Radford before taking on head coaching roles scholastically at a pair of programs, leading the Atlee girls basketball team to its first regional tournament appearance in five years and the Saint Gertrude program to its first state tournament appearance in 14 years.

She returned to the college ranks with stops at Virginia Tech and Coppin State before taking on head coaching roles at a pair of NJCAA programs in Motlow State and Harford.

Collins graduated from Virginia State in 2000.
