Morgan Rachu joined the Iona women's basketball staff as the Director of Operations in January of 2023. Rachu played under head coach Billi Chambers for two seasons (2018-20).
“It is one of the most rewarding experiences as a coach to be able to hire a former player. Morgan was a self-made player – she worked incredibly hard to become a top-level junior college player, earn herself a Division I scholarship and become one of the best shooters in Iona Women’s Basketball history,” Chambers said. “I have no doubt that she will bring that same intense level of work ethic and passion for Iona University to her new role on our staff.”
As a player, Rachu came to Iona from the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County where she was a two-time conference player of the year and two-time first team all-conference selection. She was a 1,000-point scorer in junior college, averaging 38 points per game before joining the Maroon & Gold. In two years at Iona, Rachu moved into the top-50 in scoring and imprinted her name inside the top-10 of multiple statistical categories in Iona’s record books. Rachu’s 154 three-point field goals made ranks eighth in Iona history and she also owns two spots inside the top-10 for the most three-point field goals made in a single season in Iona history.
“I really feel like this opportunity is bringing everything full circle. Iona has always been home to me and I’ve always cherished this University in its entirety,” Rachu said. “And now getting the opportunity to be behind the scenes and working closely with this amazing coaching staff, I’m looking forward to helping continue building this program out. Like they say, once a Gael, always a Gael!”
