EMAIL COACH KLOOS

Thomas Kloos joins the Iona College Cross Country and Track & Field staff for his first season after spending six years as the head cross country coach at El Camino High School in Southern California.

At his alma mater, El Camino, Kloos was named Coach of the Year on four different occasions from 2000-2005. He was San Diego Coach of the Year on the girls' side in 2000 and 2003 while earning the same award as coach of the Boys in 2004. He was also named California Coaches Association Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year in '04. Among his many accomplishments at El Camino was the development of 2005 Footlocker National Cross Country Champion, AJ Acosta.

Kloos earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Columbia University in 1999 where he was a two-time Cross Country Academic All-American in 1997 and 1998. He went on to earn his Teaching Credential from National University in San Diego, CA in 2002. After a successful undergraduate effort at Columbia, Kloos continued his running career. In 2003, he finished ninth in the 3000-meter steeple chase at the United States National Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 8:30. He was the 11th American to finish the 2005 IMG New York City Marathon with a time of 2:29.

The Oceanside, CA native currently resides in New Rochelle.
