Baltimore, MD - The Iona College volleyball team ended its 2007 regular season with a 3-0 loss to Loyola on the road. The Gaels capped their season with a 10-8 conference record heading into the MAAC Championships.
The Greyhounds outmatched the Maroon & Gold in the first two games, winning 30-22 and 30-23. Iona surged late in the third game and came close staying alive in the contest. Loyola led by four at 21-17 when the Gaels scored five of the next six points to tie the score at 22-all. The teams traded sideouts for eight straight points before Iona took a 26-25 edge on an Alyssa Morales service ace. Kristin Allain, Sarah Wiener, and Rachel Whitten posted a triple block against the hosts to stretch the lead to two.
Later on, Allain knocked down a kill to bring the Gaels to game-point. Loyola managed to tie the score at 30 and 31, then registered back-to-back kills to finalize the victory.
Iona will play in the Semifinal round of the MAAC Championship, hosted by Fairfield, on Nov. 18. The squad is seeded fourth.
