Box Score Chapel Hill, NC - The Iona College men's basketball team was defeated by No. 1 ranked North Carolina 107-72 at the Dean E. Smith Center. Senior Dexter Gray netted 18 points and freshman Andre Tarver added 16 in the loss. The Gaels (0-3) and Tar Heels (1-0) competed in the first matchup in the four-game Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Invitational.

After senior Kyle Camper cut the UNC lead to 8-7 with a three-pointer in the first half just before the first media timeout of the game, the Tar Heels went on an 11-1 run and never looked back.

Gray shot 6-of-11 from the field including a career-high three three-pointers for the Gaels. Tarver was 7-of-14 from the field with two trifectas to account for his 16 points. Junior Devon Clarke had 11 points and was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line before fouling out with a little over eight minutes to play. Milan Prodanovic added eight points.

The Maroon & Gold got into early foul trouble as three players (Clarke, Camper and Gray) each had three fouls heading into halftime. Iona committed 33 fouls to the Carolina's 22 for the contest.

The Gaels continue action in the Las Vegas Invite on Tuesday when they take on Old Dominion in Norfolk, VA. The squad heads to Las Vegas on Wednesday and will have a two-day break before contests on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
