Today the Iona College women's water polo took on Marist and Villanova in MAAC play in Brooklyn. The Gale split in conference play losing to Marist 10-8 and defeating Villanova 8-3.
In the game one 10-8 loss to Marist the Gaels were lead by sophomore Amanda Brucia who netted three goals and drew one kick out. Sophomore Angela Kohlhoff found the back of the net two times for the Gaels and grabbed two steals. Senior Nicole King also added two goals for the Maroon and Gold.
Sophomore Amanda Cody received player of the game accolades from head coach Brian Kelly with one goal scored, six kick outs drawn, one steal, and three swim offs wins for the Gaels.
Senior goalie Christine Richards had nine saves for th Gaels and grabbed three steals.
In the game two victory over Villanova, player of the game accolades go to Kohlhoff who netted one goal for the Gaels and had five steals. Bruica found the back of the net four times, added three ejections, and had one field block. Sophomore Lauren Peterson, freshman Meghan Keller, and King each tallied a goal in the effort.
Richards had nine saves for the Maroon and Gold and grabbed one steal.
The Gaels end the regular season with 16-12 overall record and were 7-3 in MAAC play. The squad advances to next weekend's MAAC Championship as the No. 2 seed and will take on No. 3 Wagner in the semifinal round. The two teams split the season series this season and will serve as a rematch of the first ever MAAC Championship in 2004.
