Poughkeepsie, NY - The Iona College women's water polo team took on Wagner took in the semifinal game of the MAAC Championships at Marist College. The Gaels fell short to the Seahawks who downed the Gaels with a score of 13-9. Poor penalty shooting hindered the squad, shooting 3-for-11 on the power play and missing a 5-meter penalty shot.
Head Coach Brian Kelly's player of the game accolades go to sophomore Amanda Cody who contributed two goals for the Gaels, to go along with four ejections drawn, one being a 5M, two steals, one assist, and two swim off wins. Sophomore Amanda Brucia netted three goals in the effort, drew four ejections, and grabbed one steal. Classmate Lauren Peterson added two goals, two assists, and one steal, while rookie Meghan Keller and sophomore Stephanie Klocke tallied a goal a piece.
Senior goalie Christine Richards made eight stops for the Maroon and gold.
The Gaels will square off with Villanova tomorrow (Apr. 29) for a third place game beginning at 12:00 pm at Marist College.
