Waco, TX - Baylor women's soccer got a pair of goals from Megan Sherrell and a
goals from Lotto Smith and Jessica Hutton as they downed the Iona
women's soccer team 4-0. The Bears (5-2-1) got on the
scoreboard first in the 16th minute as Sherrell drove passed
one defender and beat Gaels' netminder Krista Thorn to give the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead.
At the end of the first half, the score remained 1-0 with the Bears outshooting the Gaels (1-7) 7 to 3. Sherrell added her second goal of the match in 49th minute as again she had a one-on-one opportunity against Thorn to give Baylor a 2-0 lead. Sherrell also added an assist as Lotto Smith knocked in a rebound after a header missed off the crossbar to put the game fully in the Bears' control at 3-0.
The Gaels were outshot 9-2 in the second half and 16-5 on the game. Freshman Carol Danis had another strong game for the Gaels leading the way with 3 shots, all of which were on goal. Danis has now tallied 10 shots which is second best on the team. Freshman Krista Thorn got the start in net for the Gaels and made 3 saves to push her season total to 7. The Bears used a pair of goalkeepers in Ashley Noah, who played the majority of the game, and Gianna Quintana combined for 4 saves.
The Gaels are back in action as they continue their trip through Texas in San Antonio to face the UTSA Roadrunners on Sunday.
