New Rochelle, NY - Sophie Reiser netted three goals as Columbia, who had a pair of goals in each half, took a 4-0 victory over the Iona College women's soccer team. In a game that saw no cautions, the Gaels (2-9) got a strong performance from freshman netminder Krista Thorn, made 7 saves, but were unable to get one past the tandem of Lions' goalies.
Reiser got the game's first tally as she got a feed from Chrissy Butler in the 23rd minute to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Resier assisted Butler on the game's next goal in the 39th minute and Columbia had a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. The Gaels had 3 shots in the first half with Nicole Yoranidis' shot reaching Rebecca Taylor, who played 64 + minutes in goal for the Lions and made 2 saves.
Reiser added two goals in the second half with her first coming in the 74th minute and the second just 3 mintues later. The Lions outshot the Gaels 15 to 6 and 11 to 2 in shots on goals. Freshman defender Diane Hare led the Gaels with 3 shots and 1 on goal with freshmen Carol Danis and Abby Dixon each with a shot.
The Gaels are on the road at Niagara as they begin Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play against the Purple Eagles on Friday, October 5.
