LATE GOAL COSTLY FOR IONA

GAELS STUMBLE AT SIENA, 4-0

LOUDONVILLE, NY - The Iona College women's soccer team endured a 4-0 loss to Siena on the road.  The Gaels still had a chance to get back into it in the second half, down only 1-0, but were hampered when the Saints scored three times to put the game away.

"From our perspective we did a good job battling and played pretty even until injuries took their toll in the second half," said head coach Eric Teepe.

Ashley Barone recorded three goals for host Siena, beginning with a shot from the left side of the box in the 24th minute.  Following a Tabitha Tice header that went over the head of Iona goalkeeper Suzanne Baldissard at 62:13, Barone added two more less than two minutes apart in the bottom half.

Teepe added, "We had to substitute a lot of players in the second half.  That allowed them to put the game away at the end, but things were closer than the score indicated.  We'll have to find a way to fight through these injuries as the season continues."

Iona totaled ten shots in the match, four in the first period and six in the second.  Baldissard played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves.

The Maroon & Gold travels to Marist on Sunday to close out the weekend.  Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
