NEW ROCHELLE, NY - With the Gael offense unable to convert on their scoring attempts, Fairfield moved ahead with a goal in the first half and took a 3-0 win over the Iona College women's soccer team at Mazzella Field.
Freshman
Sarah Porco came close to breaking Iona onto the scoreboard with a saved shot in the seventh minute and another one later on in the second period that landed just wide of the net.
Spenser Allaway recorded two goals for the visiting Stags including the game winner in the 31st minute. Ahna Johnson, who assisted on both of Allaway's goals, added a third tally for Fairfield in the 74th minute.
"I felt that we came out playing too defensively and made some unforced errors," said head coach
Eric Teepe. "We needed to put more pressure on their backs. We'll come out in our next game on Friday doing a little better job with that and hopefully have a different outcome."
Goalkeeper
Suzanne Baldissard started the match in goal for the Maroon & Gold. She made one save before being relieved by
Kelly Mahoney, who came on at the start of the second half and recorded four saves.
The Gaels return to action on Oct. 31 when they host Manhattan at 3:00 pm.
