Morgantown, WV - The Iona College baseball team was blanked 6-0 by West Virginia this afternoon in non-conference action at Hawley Field. Senior RHP Shane Sveda allowed three runs over 5.2 innings and struck out five batters, but the Gaels' (0-9) offense struggled in the loss.

The Mountaineers (10-4) scored once in the bottom of the first twice in the fifth and three times in the eighth to earn the win.

Seniors CF Paul Salerno and rookie 1B Chris Griffin were responsible for Iona's two hits.

Sveda (0-3) matched his season-high with five strikeouts to up his season total to a team-best 13.

The Gaels and Mountaineers continue the four-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
