STATEN ISLAND, NY— Iona University baseball graduate
Matt Zguro '25 signed a contract to play for the Staten Island FerryHawks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, an independent professional baseball league.
Zguro, graduated from Iona this past May with Bachelor of Arts in psychology. He joined his hometown team on August 6 and has made three appearances out of the bullpen. He has struck out four batters in four and a third innings pitched.
The right-hander was a four-year member of the Maroon & Gold bullpen. He ended his Iona career third in the program's record book with 76 career appearances. Zguro posted a 7-5 career record on the mound with 117 career strikeouts. His eight career saves rank sixth all-time in Iona history. For his hard work in the classroom, Zguro was a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team member.
The FerryHawks are amid a road trip with a matchup at the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars tonight. There are 30-games left in the 2025 ALPB season as the team looks to make a run at the second half playoff spot.
