New Rochelle, NY - The Iona College softball team fell in a doubleheader to Marist this
afternoon at Rice Oval in New Rochelle. The Red Foxes shutout the
Gaels in both games, 17-0 and 8-0, with both games ending in five
innings.
The Red Foxes (17-22, 4-3 MAAC) took control of the game in the first inning scoring nine runs on eight hits off senior starter RHP Becky Riccitelli, who lasted just 0.2 innings, and freshman reliver RHP Amanda Berard. Marist added five runs in the second and three in the fifth to complete the shutout. Freshman CF Erin Kyle picked up Iona's lone hit in the opener.
Berard pitched 4.1 innings in relief allowing 14 hits, four earned runs and had six strikeouts in the loss.
In the second game, Marist plated four runs on three hits in the second inning, adding three in the fourth and a run in the fifth. Sophomore LF Courtney Christie and senior SS Amanda Glaser each went 1-for-2 in game two for the Gaels.
Senior RHP Katie Jo Passero pitched five innings with eight hits, five earned runs, and struck out three batters.
The Gaels play a non-conference doubleheader against local rival Columbia on Thursday. Iona returns to Rice Oval and MAAC play next weekend with a doubleheader against St. Peter's on Saturday and Rider on Sunday.
