Hempstead, NY - The Iona College softball team looked to carry some momentum from their strong weekend into Hempstead on Tuesday as they faced Hofstra. The Pride (24-9) jumped out to an early lead and broke the game open in the second inning as the Gaels (8-19) were shutout 12-0.

Hofstra took a 1-0 lead after the first inning and used a six run, six hit second inning to take command of the ballgame at 7-1. The Gaels tried to answer in the top of the third as 2B Paige Cauley and DP Kelsey Griffin each reached on singles. The Maroon & Gold though couldn't push a run across as the Pride forced a doubleplay to end the inning.

Hofstra added four more runs in the bottom of the third and a run in the fourth to take a 12-0 victory in five innings. Cauley went 2-for-2 on the afternoon with two hard hit singles, but the Gaels could only notch five hits against Hofstra hurler Sara Michalowski.

Iona returns to the field and MAAC action this weekend as they embark on a western New York swing. The Gaels will face Niagara on Saturday, April 12 and Canisius on Sunday, April 13. Both series are doubleheaders.
