NEW ROCHELLE, NY - In the final game of the regular season, the Iona College women's basketball team defeated Saint Peter's, 75-54, at the Hynes Athletics Center. Iona's lone graduating player, Naeemah Ricketts, recorded eight points and four rebounds while leading the team with four assists and three steals on senior day.
The Gaels scored the first 13 points with Ricketts, Thazina Cook, and Anda Ivkovic contributing to Iona's 13-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. Sakara House broke the drought for the Peahens, ending the Gael run with a jumper at the 16:56 mark.
The Maroon & Gold never trailed in the contest and held its largest lead with a 29-point advantage with 13:09 to go in the game. After falling into the initial 13-point hole, Saint Peter's would never get closer than 12 points.
Cook led Iona with 19 points and nine rebounds, followed by 16 points from Ivkovic and 11 from Kristina Ford. House finished with a team-best 19 points for the visitors while Jynae Judson added 14. The Gaels outnumbered the Peahens 8-1 from three-point range and held a 36-34 rebounding advantage.
The Gaels will enter the MAAC Championship tournament as the No. 5 seed. They will face No. 4 Saint Peter's at 3:30 pm on Friday, March 6 in the women's quarterfinals.
