STARKVILLE, MS - The Iona College Softball team wrapped up its weekend at the Bulldog Round Robin with a rematch of Saturday's contest against Kennesaw State.  The Gaels (0-4) got on the scoreboard first, but the Owls (3-1) put up five unanswered en route to a 9-1 win in five innings.

Erin Kyle got the Maroon & Gold started as she drew one-out walk in the top of the first.  After being pushed to second on a ground-out, Kyle moved around the basepaths on two wild pitches and gave Iona its first lead of the weekend, 1-0. 

Rookie RHP Sarah Jackson got the start on the hill and despite allowing a single, got out of the first inning.  The Owls, though tied the game up in the bottom of the second inning and broke the game open with four runs on three hits and capitalized on three Gaels errors to take a 5-1 lead. 

The Gaels best chance to get back in the game came in the top of the fourth.  Melanie Gettins led off with a single and Kayla O'Neill followed with a double to right center, but Gettins was thrown out trying to take home.  The Gaels couldnt push O'Neill across and Kennesaw State added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 9-1 victory.

Jackson pitched three innings with five runs, two earned on six hits, two walks and struck out four.  O'Neill finished the game 2-for-2 to add to her weekend totals.  She was named to the All-Tournament team going 4-for-9 at the plate with a walk, a double, and three strikeouts.  

Iona returns to the field February 28-March 1 at the Longwood Spring Classic.  The Gaels open up on Saturday against the host Lancers at 10am followed by a game at 2pm against the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
