Br. Robert E. Novak, CFC, PhD '72, Anthony G. Naclerio '59, and Samuel Tolisano '85 will be honored at the Goal Club's Golf Outing on Monday, June 1 at Wykagyl Country Club.

Anthony G. Naclerio ?59 served as the head coach of the Iona College men's and women's cross country and track and field programs.

In his first year as head coach of the Gaels, the team produced three NCAA Division I All-Americans. During his tenure at Iona, Naclerio was also responsible for a number of Metropolitan, Collegiate Track Conference and IC4A champions.

Naclerio has coached countless high school national champions, collegiate All-Americans, and Olympic medalists. He was put in charge of the United States Development program for throwing athletes from 1975-96. Naclerio has also coached on the World and Olympic levels. A high point of his career
came in 1996 when he led the USA team into the stadium at the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA.

Naclerio has been a member of the United States Olympic Development Committee for the past 25 years, working at learn-by-doing clinics for coaches and athletes. Naclerio has been named Coach of the Year on the high school level and was selected as the head coach of the Olympic Sports Festival East Team in
1987. He also was selected to serve as a Throws Assistant for the American Team that competed in West Germany.

In 1989, Naclerio was selected as the throws coach for the USA vs. Russia and England competition. He was further honored by being awarded the position of the throws coach for the USA team at the World Championships in Tokyo.

In addition, Naclerio has spent 20 years as a Christian Brother. He has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of All Hallows, Essex Catholic, and Morris Hills High School as an educator and coach.

Brother Robert E. Novak ?72, CFC, PhD is the current faculty moderator of the Iona College men's and women's rowing teams and has served in the role
since 1980. In addition, he has been a faculty member of the Iona College Department of Physics since 1976.

Brother Novak has been an integral part of Iona College and the rowing program. His friendship, dedication, and loyalty throughout the years have allowed the program to position itself to what it is today. Brother Novak spearheads alumni relations for the program, whose fund raising has been a tremendous asset
over the years in supplying equipment upgrades. He has also served as President of the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Rowing Association since 1983.

He was instrumental in the elevation of the women's rowing program to varsity status. In addition to the long established Challenge Cup - given out annually to the program's most outstanding team member - the annual “Golden Oar” awards are made possible through the support and generosity of Brother Novak. The winners of these awards are those who are considered by the coaching staff to be the standout contributors to boat speed, through a combination of physical dominance and technical skill.

Brother Novak is the current academic chairperson of the physics department at Iona College. He has served in this position since June 2002. He is also a former President of the Iona College Alumni Association from 1995 to 1999.

Brother Novak received a BS in Physics from Iona in 1972, an MS in Physics from Stevens Tech in 1977 and his PhD from Columbia University in 1980.

Samuel P. Tolisano ?85 was a standout performer on the baseball diamond during his time at Iona College.

Tolisano was the Gaels offensive leader at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship during his sophomore and junior seasons, hitting .506 and .416. In 1983, Tolisano had the fourth highest batting average in all of NCAA Division I when he batted .506. In addition, Tolisano had a four-year career
batting average of .416 and a career slugging percentage of .718.

Tolisano was among the Top 10 hitters in the nation as a sophomore and junior. He led his team in all offensive categories during the 1984 season. Tolisano was also a three-time member of the ECAC All-Star team.

At the time of his graduation, Tolisano ranked first on Iona's career hit list with 187. In addition, he remains No. 1 on the all-time doubles list with 65.

Tolisano continues to hold the single-season school record with 26 doubles. His 43 runs scored and 43 RBI in 1984 set a new school records. Both currently stand in the Top 15 on the single-season list.

In 1985, Tolisano received the Iona College Athletics' Joseph O'Connell Award, given to the most outstanding male and female student-athletes of the year.

In addition Iona College Athletics is proud to announce the inclusion of the Donald E. Walsh ?66 award to the Iona College Hall of Fame Golf Outing. This award will be presented annually by the Iona College Goal Club to an individual who has demonstrated loyal support and service to Iona College Athletics through exceptional volunteerism.
