TALLAHASSEE, FL - The Iona College softball team concluded play at the Sunshine Classic Sunday morning, falling to Bowling Green by the score of 4-0.
The Gaels were behind early after the Falcons were able to put a run in the first when a wild pitch scored Bowling Green's Hannah Fulk. The Iona first started with junior Tessa Earley earning a walk but the Gaels were unable to put a run across against Bowling Green starter Melissa Bott.
The Falcons cemented the victory with a three run second on two hits and an error. The Gaels' greatest scoring threat came in the fifth when they were able to load the bases with one out. However a strike out by Bott and a ground out ended the potential rally.
Sophomore Sarah Jackson pitched three innning of scoreless relief for Iona, retiring all nine batters she faced.
The Gaels return to action in two weeks at the Spartan Invitational in Norfolk, VA. The Gaels open with a 9:00 am contest with Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 27.
