PRINCETON, NJ - Limited to only nine players due to other athletic commitments, the Iona College women's water polo team fell to Harvard at the Princeton Invitational in a close contest 15-14.
Down one at half, the Gaels outscored the Crimson 7-5 in the third quarter and led 12-11 entering the fourth. However a four goal quarter by Harvard was too much for the Maroon & Gold to overcome.
For Iona, senior Meghan Keller had five goals, while junior Maggie Wood and sophomore Cecilia Leonard each had four goals. Freshman Alyssa Turza had the other Iona score.
Junior goalie Kathleen Link had 12 saves in net for the Gaels.
Late Saturday evening, the Gaels lost a close match with 12 ranked Hartwick by the score of 20-14. Leonard posted four goals and two assists in the contest, while Maggie Wood also contributed six points on four goals and two assists.
Keller had three goals and an assist while Turza added a goal of her own. Freshman Terra Shelton added two and an assist for Iona. Freshman Juliana Kiesselbach made her first career start in net for the Gaels and recorded nine saves and two assists.
The Gaels continue play at the Princeton Invitation with a 10:20 matchup with 18th ranked Brown Sunday morning.
