SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - A late rally by the Iona College baseball team came up short in an 11-8 defeat at Seton Hall at Carroll Field. The two team's squared off in the first game of the Pirates' Strike Out Cancer Tournament.
After falling behind 10-1 in the contest, the Gaels scored seven runs in the final two innings.
Senior LF Andrew Passerelle, junior 2B Nick Rossetti and junior C Chris Griffin each had two hits in the game. Rossetti was 2-for-4 with a season-high three runs scored and a stolen base. Passerelle and Griffin each had an RBI in the contest.
Sophomore CF Dean Dignelli scored twice and had a two-run triple in the top of the ninth inning for the Gaels. His clasmate, James Beck came off the bench in the eighth inning and had a base hit, a run scored and a sacrifice fly in the contest.
Junior LHP Brian Callahan (1-2) took the loss.
The Gaels return to action at Seton Hall tomorrow in a rematch with Stony Brook at 10:00 am.
