SACRAMENTO, CA - The Iona College softball team closed its spring break trip to the west coast with a 6-0 loss to Nevada. The Gaels split the four games of the Capital Classic hosted by Sacramento State, going 2-2.
The Wolf Pack got the scoring going in the first inning when they scored the game's initial run. After Iona was only able to put one hit on the board against Nevada starter Mallary Darby, the Wolf Pack opened up the contest with a four run third inning on four hits to widen to four to 5-0. Nevada finished the scoring in the fourth with another run.
The Gaels had offensive chances during the contest, but were unable to put the runs home as they left a pair of runners on base in both the fourth and seventh innings. Junior RHP
Alyssa Maiese took the loss for Iona, allowing four earned runs in two-plus innings of work.
The Gaels (6-11) return to action this Thursday, Mar. 25, when they visit Philadelphia to take on Drexel for a non-conference double header. The first game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
