CLAREMONT, CA - The Iona College women's water polo team picked up a pair of wins on the first day of its west coast trip to the Claremont Convergence, defeating Redlands 14-9 and overtaking Claremont-Scripps-Mudd 12-9.
Against Redlands, the Gaels were led by sophomore
Mackenzie Mone's five goals and two steals. Sophomore
Cecilia Leonard also had five points on four goals and an assist, adding a field block on the defensive end. Junior
Maggie Wood had two goals and an assist to go with a kickout drawn. Senior
Meghan Keller had a goal, an assist and a kickout drawn while junior
Samantha Cody wrapped up the Iona tallies with two goals and a steal. Junior
Kathleen Link had 12 saves in net for the Maroon & Gold.
Against CSM, the Gaels were led by Wodd's seven points on five goals and two assists. Wood drew three kickouts and defensively had a steal and a field block. Leonard had six points on four goals and two assists. Leonard also drew three kickouts, and had three steals and a field block defensively. Mone had a goal and four helpers and added a steal. Keller had a goal and an assist while freshman
Lauren Scheetz had a goal. Link had 11 saves in goal.
The Gaels take on Cal Lutheran at Pomona College Saturday at 1:20 pm (ET).
