CLAREMONT, CA - The Iona College women's water polo team picked up two more wins at the Claremont Convergence Saturday, defeating Cal Lutheran 8-7 and Pomona Pitzer 12-6.
Against Cal Lutheran, an NCAA qualifier a year ago, the Gaels were spearheaded on the offensive end by sophomore
Cecilia Leonard's two goals and three assists. Leonard also had five steals and a field block on the defensive end. Junior
Maggie Wood had two goals to go along with three steals and a kickout drawn. Freshman
Alyssa Turza had two goals for the Gaels and a steal defensively. Senior
Meghan Keller had two points on a goal and an assist while sophomore
Mackenzie Mone had a goal and drew two kickouts. Junior
Kathleen Link had 10 saves as well as an assist and two steals.
Against Pomona Pitzer, Mone had five points on three goals and two assists, adding a field block and a steal on the defensive end. Wood had four goals and two steals as well as two kickouts drawn. Leonard had four points on two goals and two assists. Turza had two goals and an assist while freshman
Lauren Scheetz had a goal. Junior
Sam Cody had two steals on the defensive end. Link had eight saves in net as well as two steals.
The Gaels return to the water next Saturday when they begin MAAC play against Siena at Villanova at 1:00 pm.
