LOUDONVILLE, NY - The Iona College women's water polo team won its second contest of the day Saturday when they defeated Mercyhurst 17-14 at the Siena Invite. Down as many as four, the Gaels used a strong offensive second half to defeat the Lakers.
With many Iona fans in town for the MAAC Basketball Championships, the Gaels used the fan support to work hard and battle for their second win of the day. Junior
Maggie Wood led the Gaels with six goals and drew six kickouts. Senior
Meghan Keller had four goals, an assist and drew a kickout. Sophomore
Cecilia Leonard had four goals, drew three kickouts and had two steals. Sophomore
Mackenzie Mone had a goal, an assist and four steals. Freshman
Lauren Scheetz had a goal and an assist while classmate
Alyssa Turza had a goal and drew two kickouts.
In net, junior
Kathleen Link had seven saves in three quarters of play, while freshman
Juliana Kiesselbach had three saves in a quarter of work. The Gaels return to the water Sunday afternoon for a matchup with Siena at 12:00 pm.
