LOUDONVILLE, NY - The Iona College women's water polo team picked up two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contests Saturday, defeating
Siena 13-8 in the first game before defeating Wagner 11-5 in the afternoon.
Against Siena, Iona was led by sophomore
Cecilia Leonard's nine points on five goals and four assists. Leonard also drew four kickouts and had a
field block on defense. Classmate
Mackenzie Mone had two goals and two assists, with a
steal and a field block. Senior
Meghan Keller also had two goals and two assists, while
drawing a kickout and securing a steal and field block on the defensive side. Freshman
Alyssa Turza had two goals and an assist and drew a kickout, while also picking up a steal and a field block. Junior
Maggie Wood had a goal and three steals. Sophomore
Caitlin McGregor had a goal, an assist and a steal while junior
Sam Cody had a goal and drew a kickout. Junior
Kathleen Link made 12 saves in net for the Gaels.
In what head coach
Brian Kelly called "a strong defensive effort," Link had 18 saves in the Iona net while Cody had five steals.
Wood had three goals and an assist while drawing two kickouts and picking up two field blocks. Mone had two goals and two assists with three steals and a kickout
drawn. Keller had two goals and an assist while Turza had two goals and two assists with a steal. Leonard had a goal and an assist with two steals. Freshman
Lauren Scheetz had a goal.
The Gaels take on fellow MAAC
undefeated team Marist in a contest for first in the conference Sunday morning at 10:30 am.
