POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Iona College women's water polo team was unable to keep its nine game winning streak alive, falling to Marist 15-10 Sunday morning. The Gaels however look to begin another one after defeating Villanova 14-8 in their second contest of the day.
Against Marist, Iona was led by sophomore
Mackenzie Mone's four goals and two kickouts drawn. Classmate
Cecilia Leonard had three goals while drawing four kickouts and picking up two steals on the defensive end. Senior
Meghan Keller had two goals while junior
Maggie Wood had a goal and an assist as well as four kickouts drawn and a steal.
In the victory against Villanova, a seven goal third quarter pushed the tempo in the Gaels' favor as they finished with the 14-8 victory. Mone once again led Iona, this time with five goals and an assist. Mone also recorded five steals and drew two kickouts. Wood had four goals and drew six ejections. Leonard recorded five points on three goals and two assists while recording three steals. Freshmen Laureen Scheetz and
Alyssa Turza each had a goal. Junior
Sam Cody had two steals on the defensive end and drew two ejections. Link made nine saves and picked up two steals.
The Gaels are back in action next weekend in Brooklyn Heights when they take on St. Francis (NY) at 10:30 am and Wagner at 2:30 pm.
