NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Iona College softball team defeated Central Connecticut State by a score of 4-2 Wednesday afternoon. The win moves the Gaels to 16-14 on the season, while CCSU drops to 13-21.

The Blue Devils took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning when junior Kat Knowles doubled in a pair of runs with one out. Kendall Sours and Becca Mussati each singled in the inning and both scored on the double by Knowles.
The Gaels tied the game at 2-2 when Kyle singled home freshman DH Eileen McCann in the top of the sixth. They took the lead in extra innings with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning. Junior C Melanie Gettins and Sheehan each drove in a run to give Iona the 4-2 lead.
Junior 2B Tessa Earley had three hits for Iona, while Kyle, Sheehan and freshman CF Jodi Petersen each had two hits.
Reigning MAAC Pitcher of the Week sophomore Sarah Jackson picked up the victory for Iona, pitching all eight innings, while allowing two runs and six hits while striking out nine.
The Gaels, on a season high seven game winning streak, are back in action Thursday afternoon when they face Stony Brook at 3:00 pm.
