WEST POINT, NY - The Iona College baseball team fell 5-4 to Army in non-conference action at Doubleday Field. The Black Knights scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Gaels.
Army took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the third. Iona cut the deficit to one with two runs in the fourth. Rookie C
Sean Menickella singled home sophomores DH
James Beck and 3B
Chris Burke to account for the tallies.
The Black Knights added a run in their half inning to make the score 4-2. The Gaels battled back in the fifth; knotting the score at 4-4 on senior LF
Andrew Passerelle's two-run home run with one out.
A lead off home run by Army's David Darnell in the seventh inning proved to be the difference.
Sophomore RF
Colin Lyall had three hits while Passerelle had two. Eight of the Gaels nine starters posted hits in the loss.
The Gaels are back in action this weekend when they play a four-game home-and-home series with Fairleigh Dickinson.
