IONA FALLS TO FDU IN DOUBLEHEADER

TEANECK, NJ- The Iona College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Fairleigh Dickinson in non-conference action at FDU Field. The Gaels fell 6-4 in the opener and 16-12 in the nightcap.

In game one, junior 2B Nick Rossetti was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomores 1B Michael Chiaravalloti and CF Dean Dignelli each homered in the loss. Rookie RHP Matt Marley tossed all six innings allowing five hits and four earned runs with four strikeouts.

In the game two slugfest, each team got on the board in each of their first five half innings.

Rossetti, Chiaravalloti, Dignelli, senior LF Andrew Passerelle and sophomore RF Colin Lyall had two hits a piece. Chiaravalloti and Dignelli homered again in the nightcap and drove in four runs each. Lyall also had two runs batted in.

Rossetti extended his hitting streak to five games and has reached base safely in 25 of his 28 starts this season.

Sophomore RHP Derrick Bligh took the loss in relief.

The two teams complete their four-game series tomorrow in New Rochelle at Salesian Field beginning at 12:00 pm.
