BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY - The Iona College women's water polo team picked up two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference wins Saturday in matches held in Brooklyn Heights. In the first contest of the day, Iona defeated St. Francis (NY) 16-14 in overtime. In game two, Iona defeated Wagner 13-12.
Against the Terriers, after starting the game 0-8 in shots, sophomore
Mackenzie Mone scored a goal with three seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Overall, Mone had two goals in the contest. Sophomore
Cecilia Leonard had 10 points on seven goals and three assists while drawing five ejections. Senior
Meghan Keller had four goals and three assists while junior
Maggie Wood had four goals and two assists. Additionally Wood drew two ejections. Freshman

Sam Cody each had a goal to close out the Iona scorers. Junior
Kathleen Link had 11 saves in net for the Gaels.
Against Wagner, Leonard was once again the Iona leading scorer, scoring five goals and dishing out two assists for the Gaels. Wood had three goals and an assist while drawing four ejections. Mone had three goals and two steals on the defensive end. Keller had a goal and two steals while Cody had a goal, three steals and two field blocks. Link had 12 saves in goal.
The Gaels travel to Staten Island tomorrow for another pair of MAAC contests, beginning with a matchup with first place Marist at 9:00 am.
