NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College softball team picked up their third straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference double header sweep when it defeated Siena Saturday afternoon at Rice Oval. The Gaels took game one 1-0 and game two by the score of 5-0.
In game one, Iona was led by sophomore RHP
Sarah Jackson, who pitched a complete game for the Gaels. In seven innings of work, Jackson allowed six hits while striking out 11. It was Jackson's sixth double digit strikeout outing of the season. The win moved Jackson to 11-4.
The lone run of the contest came in the first inning. With one out, freshman
Marisa Newman walked. Freshman CF
Jodi Petersen followed with a double to right, sending Newman to third. Junior
Tierney Markou was summoned to run for Newman as freshman DP
Eileen McCann walked to load the bases. Sophomore 1B
Allyssa James grounded into a run scoring fielders choice to bring in the only run the Gaels would need in the contest.
In game two, Iona got another dominating performance in the circle, this time by sophomore RHP
Deanne Algeo. In seven innings, Algeo had three strikeouts and surrendered just four hits.
The Gaels got on the board in the second inning when sophomore 3B
Chelsea Sheehan drove in Markou with a sacrifice fly.
The Gaels scored four runs in the third inning to put the contest out of reach. McCann, James, junior LF

Melanie Gettins all had RBIs in the inning for Iona.
The Gaels, undefeated in MAAC play this season, host Marist Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm at Rice Oval.
