LOUDONVILLE, NY - The Iona College baseball team dropped a three-game series to Siena in MAAC action at Siena Field. The Saints topped the Gaels 11-7 on Friday before sweeping a doubleheader 5-1 and 8-1 on Saturday.
In the series opener, four Iona players posted two hits. Senior LF
Andrew Passerelle was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. He slammed his seventh home run of the season down the left field line in the ninth inning. Junior 2B
Nick Rossetti had his 14th multiple hit game of the year - matching Passerelle for the team lead - and also scored twice while driving in a run. Sophomores 3B
Chris Burke and RF
Colin Lyall also recorded two hits in the loss.
Rookie RHP
Matt Marley (1-5) took the loss, tossing the game's first five innings.
In game two, Siena scored all five of its runs in the fourth and fifth innings of starter, senior LHP
Justin Wiley.
Sophomore CF
Dean Dignelli and rookie DH
Kyle Charron each had two hits. Dignelli posted the team's lone run batted in with a run scoring single in the third.
Dignelli also had two hits in the series finale. Rossetti's single to left center in the eighth inning accounted for the Gaels' run.
After a mid-week game at Wagner on Wednesday (Apr. 24) the Gaels continue their road trip at Saint Peter's next weekend (May 1-2).
