NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College softball team fell to Fordham in non conference action Tuesday afternoon at Rice Oval. Only able to
muster two hits against Rams' pitching, Iona was defeated 6-0.
The Gaels faced an early deficit even before they even got to bat. After two singles,
Fordham's Erin Fisher blasted a home run off Iona starter Eileen McCann to put the Rams ahead 3-0. Fordham put two runs across in the fourth on
unearned runs off two Iona errors. Fordham put the sixth run of the contest on the board in the sixth inning off Iona reliever Alyssa Maiese.
Offensively, only three Gaels reached on hits by freshman SS Marisa
Newman and sophomore 3B Chelsea Sheehan and
freshman CF Jodi Petersen reached on an error.
Iona falls to 22-18 on the year, while Fordham, now 40-8, reached the 40 win mark for the first time in program history. McCann took the loss for the Gaels, moving
to 0-1 on the year. Fordham's Jen Mineau moved to 27-5 on the year with the win.
The Gaels are back in non conference action Wednesday when they
travel to Jamaica, NY to take the BIG EAST's St. John's Red Storm. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
