NEW ROCHELLE, NY - In the finale of a three-game series, the Iona College baseball team fell to Marist 6-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) competition at Salesian Field Monday afternoon.
Marist opened the scoring in the first, when a leadoff walk led to a sacrifice fly by Ricky Pacione. In the second, Marist scored on a home run and a two run single, giving the Red Foxes a 4-0 lead. Runs in the fifth and sixth innings gave Marist the decisive 6-0 victory.
For the Gaels, sophomore 1B
Michael Chiaravalloti went 4-4 with a double, while eight of the nine Iona starters registered at least one hit. Marist held a narrow 12-11 edge in hits during the contest.
Freshman
Matt Petro took the loss for Iona, allowing four earned runs in 1.1 innings in his first career start.
The Gaels return to action Wednesday when they take on Central Connecticut at 3:00 pm
