NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's water polo team defeated St. Francis (NY) by a score of 19-6 in the squad's lone home game of the season. It is the seventh straight win for the Gaels, who sit atop the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings.
Sophomore Mackenzie Mone led the Gaels with seven points (5g, 2a) while classmate Cecilia Leonard had five points (4g, 1a). Senior Meghan Keller had four goals in her final home contest while freshman Alyssa Turza, the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week, also found the net four times for Iona. Junior Maggie Wood, the conference's Offensive Player of the Week, had two goals while freshman Lauren Scheetz dished out an assist.
Junior Kathleen Link made eight saves in net, while freshman Juliana Kiesselbach had five saves in a relief role. The Gaels return to the water next weekend when they face Siena and Wagner in MAAC play in Loudonville, NY.
