RIVERDALE, NY - Iona College women's soccer sophomore Carly Haden picked the an opportune time for her first collegiate goal, burying a shot from 20-yards out in the 105th minute to lead the Gaels to a thrilling 2-1 overtime win at Manhattan.

"I'm proud of our girls for how they bounced back tonight after a tough loss on Friday," said first-year head coach Mike Barroqueiro. "We knew coming in with very few games left in conference play, we couldn't leave points on the table so to find a way to break through in overtime showed how focused they were on the overall goal of getting three points."

The Gaels got on the scoreboard first in the 15th minute. Rookie Melissa Frederick headed a well placed free kick from junior Laura Jackson past Manhattan keeper Kara Davis. Jackson booted the ball into the box from just outside midfield and found Frederick for her third goal of the year.

Just over ten minutes later, the Jaspers evened the score at 1-1. Janie Schlauder took a pass from teammate Allison Pfeiffer and beat Iona GK Trista Rivera to the lower right side.

The two teams played scoreless soccer for the next 75+ minutes. After Manhattan and Iona each recorded three shots in the first half, the Gaels took a 12-6 advantage in the second, but couldn't find a go-ahead tally.

In the second overtime, Haden took a pass from sophomore Katie Higgins, turned and fired a shot that bend just under the cross bar for the game winner. Higgins' assist was the first collegiate point for the Iona defender.

Iona returns home for the final time this season when they host Rider and Loyola at Mazzella Field.  The contests are a part of the college's annual Homecoming and Family Weekend.

"Although I'm happy with how we ended our weekend, there's obviously still plenty for us to work on this week in training. Time for our young group to refocus and get ready for another set of tough matches."
