ANN ARBOR, MI - The Iona College women's water polo team picked up two wins on day one of the Wolverine Invite in Ann Arbor. The Gaels defeated Mercyhurst 14-8 in game one before defeating Ganoon 16-9 in game two.
Against Mercyhurst, the Gaels were led by senior
Maggie Wood's five points on four goal and an assist. Wood drew three kickouts and defensively had a steal and a field block. Freshman
Amy Olsen also had four goals and picked up a steal. Junior
Cecilia Leonard had two goals, two assists and two steals. Sophomore
Lauren Scheetz had two goals and an assist. Junior
Mackenzie Mone had a goal, assist and three steals. Sophomore
Alyssa Turza had a goal, steal and drew a kickout. Senior
Kathleen Link had eight saves, three steals and three assists.
In game two against Gannon, freshman
Erika Lauraitis had four goals, an assist and drew a kickout. Olsen had another monster game with three goals. Mone had two goals and an assist. Freshman
Sarah Hanly had two goals and two field blocks. Wood had a goal and two assists while Leonard also had two assists. Sophomore
Terra Shelton had a goal, a steal and drew two kickouts. Turza and Scheetz each had a goal and an assist, with freshman
Hannah Cross adding a goal.
Juliana Kiesselbach had four saves in the first half. Freshman
Marisa Gaynor made eight saves in the second half, and had two assists.
The Gaels are back in action for two more games, beginning with a contest against No. 19 Maryland at 9:15 am before taking on Michigan at 3:45 pm.
