ANN ARBOR, MI - The Iona College women's water polo team avenged an early season loss and defeated No. 19 Maryland in their third contest at the Wolverine Invite. The Gaels used a 8-3 advantage in quarters two and three en route to a 14-9 victory. The Gaels were unable to replicate their success in their final matchup, falling to Michigan 10-6.
Against the Wolverines, the Gaels trailed only by one at half before Michigan outscored Iona 4-0 in the third. Leonard was the top scorer for the Maroon & Gold, with three goals and two assists. Olsen had two goals and drew one kickout. Mone had the final Iona goal, along with a steal and a field block on defense. Link made ten saves, including seven in the first quarter.
The Gaels travel to California next, beginning on Mar. 17 with a matchup with Concordia at 3:00 pm.
