NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College baseball team suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Canisius in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener at Salesian Field on Saturday. The Golden Griffins (8-14, 2-0 MAAC) took the doubleheader with scores of 13-4 and 9-0.
The Gaels (7-12, 0-2 MAAC) were led offensively in the opener by senior 2B
Nick Rossetti's 3-for-4 effort. Rossetti scored twice and drove in a third. Junior 1B
Michael Chiaravalloti knocked his second home run of the season in the second inning to give Iona an early 2-0 advantage. Chiaravalloti was 2-for-4 with the two-run shot. Senior LHP
Justin Wiley (2-2) took the loss, tossing 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits, seven runs while striking out a season-high 10 batters.

James Beck was the lone Gael with multiple-hits in the night cap, and was 2-for-3 with two singles. Sophomore SS
Matthew Kriss doubled in the third but was stranded at second base in the inning. Freshman LHP
Eddie Macaluso tossed the first five innings and took the loss (2-2).
The Gaels and Griffs complete the three-game series tomorrow at Salesian Field at noon.
