POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Iona College softball team traveled to Marist Sunday afternoon for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference double header with the Red Foxes. The Gaels were unable to pick up a victory on the day, falling in game one 2-1, before losing game two 13-5.
In the opener, the Gaels jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when senior 3B
Alyssa Maiese hit her team best sixth home run of the season.
The two teams would trade scorless innings until the bottom of the sixth when Marist knotted the game at one. Megan Lamoureux drove in Caitlin Schell with a two out single off Iona starter
Sarah Jackson.
In the eighth, after Iona left runners on second and third, Danielle Koltz hit a walk off home run to give the Red Foxes the 2-1 victory.
Jackson took the loss, allowing just three hits and two runs in her seven innings of work while striking out ten. Emily Osterhaus picked up her ninth win of the season, allowing four hits and one run in eight innings.
In game two, the Gaels picked up another early lead in the first with three runs. After a single by junior SS

Eileen McCann put a 1-2 pitch over the fence for her third home run of the season. Sophomore CF
Jodi Petersen followed with a double and would come around on a wild pitch.
The Red Foxes responded with six run first, sending nine batters to the dish in the inning. Alyssa Zahka drew a bases loaded walk to put Marist on the board before Haley Birnbaum hit a grand slam to right field to put Marist ahead. Koltz would immediately follow with her second home run of the day.
The Gaels would put their final two runs of the contest across in the second when Algeo hit a two-run home run to center and pull the Gaels within one.
Marist would put three more runs across in the third. Koltz's RBI double scored the first as Sarah Carmody and Schell would also drive in runs in the inning. In the fourth inning, RBI singles by Zahka, Koltz, and Carmody rounded out the scoring for Marist.
Petersen and Algeo each had two hits in the contest, while McCann and freshman DP
Katie Jansson each reached base twice.
Maiese took the loss, allowing nine earned runs and six hits in three innings. Jackson surrendered four runs in an inning of relief. Paige Lewis went the full five innings for Marist to earn the win.
The Gaels are back in action Wednesday when they visit West Point, NY for a midweek double dip with Army. Game one begins at 3:30 pm.
