Gaels Fall To Highlanders In Rain-Shortened Affair

NEWARK, NJ - The Iona College baseball team could not withstand a seven-run NJIT second in an 12-6 defeat to the Highlanders in a rain-shortened seven inning affair at Riverfront Stadium.

Freshman LF Joe Torres went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double and a stolen base in the loss. It was the rookie outfielder's team leading 19th stolen base of the season. Junior SS Eric Capowski was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI to represent the Gaels multi-hit efforts.

Freshman RHP Stephen Bianchi took the loss. Junior RHP Jordan Gilruth tossed 4.1 innings allowing four runs.

The Gaels take on the University of Hartford tomorrow on the road before a MAAC weekend series at Niagara on Saturday and Sunday.
