Gaels Win MAAC Women's Water Polo Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Senior utility Maggie Wood was named Most Outstanding Performer as she helped guide top-seeded Iona College to an 11-10 victory over third-seeded Wagner College in the 2011 MAAC Women's Water Polo Championship Game, held at the McCann Natatorium on the campus of Marist College.

Wood, who reset the MAAC record for most goals scored in a single season (109), scored five goals in today's match.  MAAC Rookie of the Year Amy Olsen scored three goals for the Gaels.  Junior utility Mackenzie Mone registered two goals, while junior utility Cecilia Leonard added one goal for the Maroon and Gold.

The Gaels receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Water Polo Championship Play-In game and will host the SCIAC champion.  The play-in game will take place on Saturday, May 7 at the Greenwich YMCA in Greenwich, CT.
