Marist Tops Iona In Baseball Series Opener

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Iona College baseball team dropped the opener of a three-game series with Marist 10-4 at McCann Baseball Field. The Red Foxes scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead for good.

Freshman LF Joe Torres and sophomore SS Matthew Kriss recorded two hits apiece and junior 3B Chris Burke drove in two runs to lead the Gaels offensively. All three players and junior 1B Michael Chiaravalloti each had a double in the loss.

Junior LHP Colin Lyall took the loss, allowing two earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched.

Marist 3B Jon Schwind hit a grand slam home run off Lyall in the second inning to spark the home team.

The two teams complete a three-game series tomorrow afternoon at Noon. LHPs Justin Wiley and Eddie Macaluso will pitch for the Gaels.
