VILLANOVA, PA - The Iona College women's water polo team got two more crucial MAAC wins Saturday when they swept a pair of games hosted by Villanova at the Villanova Swim Center. In game one, the Gaels topped the host Wildcats 14-4 before beating St. Francis 15-7 in the finale
Senior
Mackenzie Mone was the Gaels' top scorer against the Wildcats, scoring six goals. Freshman
Katie Stelnicki had two goals and one assist to go along with two steals and a kickout drawn. Sophomore Erika Lauaratis had two goals and one steal while sophomore
Amy Olsen had two assists, three steals and one kickout drawn. Senior
Cecilia Leonard had one goal, one assist and two steals. Sophomore
Sarah Hanly had one goal, two steals and two blocks. Freshman
Ashley DeMarzo had one goal and one steal for Iona. Freshman
Monica Stiles also scored once for the Gaels.
Sophomore
Marisa Gaynor allowed just one goal in a half of play and recorded two saves. Freshman
Devin Green had three saves in a relief role.
Against St. Francis, Leonard assisted on five goals and had three steals on defense. Mone had four goals, three steals and one field block. Junior
Alyssa Turza had five goals, one steal and one kickout drawn. Olsen had three goals, one assist, four steals and a kickout drawn in a complete effort. Stelnicki had one goal and four steals while senior
Caitlin McGregor had one goal and one steal.
In the first half, Gaynor once again allowed just one goal while making three saves. Green made five saves in the second half.
The Gaels wrap up the regular season Sunday with a pair of contests at Villanova. First the Gaels take on VMI at 9:00 am before a 1:30 pm faceoff with Wagner.
