Iona got on the board quickly with a run in the first.  Junior Jodi Petersen led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Allison Hand.  With two outs, senior Alyssa Maiese singled through the middle to plate Petersen, and move Iona ahead 1-0.

Drexel tied the contest in the second, when Hannah Parish drove in Amanda Bachmann with a bases loaded two-out single.  Iona starter Sarah Jackson was able to retire the next batter before Drexel could capitalize further.  The two teams would then for the next five innings, and push the Gaels into extra innings for the first time since a Mar. 24 eight inning win over St. John's.

The Gaels would only need one extra at-bat on the day, gooding ahead with two runs in the eighth.  With one out, junior Eileen McCann reached on an infield error by the Dragons.  Maiese followed with a walk.  Senior Deanne Algeo then roped a single down the line, with McCann just beating the throw to the plate with the Gaels' second run of the game.  After Algeo moved to second on a ground out, senior Allyssa James laced a line drive right up the middle to score Maiese with the second run of the inning and put Iona ahead for good.

Maiese got the win in relief of Jackson, allowing just four hits in four innings of relief, and most importantly retiring the Dragons in order in the bottom of the eighth.  Jackson went the first four for Iona, surrendering four hits, one run and striking out five.  Hillary Allen took the loss for Drexel, going four innings in relief of starter Shelby Taylor, and allowing two runs, both unearned.
