POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The top-seeded Iona College softball team picked up a 3-0 victory over the fourth-seeded Marist Red Foxes Thursday afternoon in the second game of the 2012 MAAC Softball Championship, held at Marist's Softball Park at Gartland Field.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Gaels pushed across two runs.  Senior 
Deanne Algeo singled through the left side to bring in junior 
Eileen McCann with the first run and senior
 Alyssa Maiese scored on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0 in favor of Iona.
Iona added its final tally in the fifth inning when junior 
Jodi Petersen singled through the right side, scoring freshman 
Brianna Schauer.
Senior 
Sarah Jackson earned the win, moving to 16-11 on the year, striking out three batters in four innings. Maiese was credited with the save, going three innings in the circle. Marist's Emily Osterhaus dropped her record to 11-9 on the season.
Iona will face second-seeded Fairfield University in game three on Friday, May 11 at 11 a.m. Following that contest will be game four featuring Marist and third-seeded Canisius College in an elimination game at approximately 1 p.m. The winner of game four and the loser of game three will compete in another elimination game - game five - starting at 3 p.m.
