BROOKLYN, NY - The Iona College women's water polo team continued early season play with a 23-12 win over St. Francis (NY) at the SFC Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon.

Preseason MAAC Player of the Year Amy Olsen led the Gaels with eight goals and three assists.   Senior Alyssa Turza had eight points on six goals and two assists, while Rebecca Matthews added three goals.  Freshman Sara Bortz contributed two goals, while junior Sarah Hanly and freshmen Taylor Silva, Dana Andrea and Meghan Mahoney each had one goal.  Sophomore Ashley DeMarzo had two assists in the contest for the Gaels.

In net, junior Marisa Gaynor had nine saves and four assists.  Earlier in the day, the Gaels defeated Cornell 16-1 in an exhibition match, and concluded the afternoon with an 18-2 exhibition win over Boston University.

The team is back in action next weekend at the MAAC/CWPA Crossover at Villanova University, beginning with a 1:30 pm matchup Saturday against Princeton.
