FAIRFAX, VA - The Iona College baseball team dropped the opening game of a three-game set 12-3 to George Mason on Friday afternoon at Spuhler Field.

Sophomore 3B Matt Hratko led the Gaels with two RBI on a sacrifice fly in the first and a double to right field in the sixth. Freshman 1B Christian Choman also added an RBI in the sixth with a single to right field. 

Junior RHP Eddie Macaluso (0-2) allowed five runs (two earned) in four innings.  The Iona bullpen allowed seven runs in four innings. Anthony Montefusco pitched five innings for the Patriots for his first win. 

After adding a run in the opening frame, George mason scored three times in the bottom of the first and then two more runs in the third. Leading 5-1, the hosts scored five more times in the fifth before Iona added two in the sixth. Trailing 10-3, Iona allowed one run in the next two frames.  

Both squads will continue the series with a doubleheader on Saturday.
